Launching a brand-new and unique interdisciplinary programme.
International business is increasingly affected by international political developments; for example, by Brexit, new trade initiatives such as CETA, TTIP, TPP etc. The emerging new political world order not only creates uncertainties and challenges but also provides new opportunities for international trade, investment and management. Various actors such as governments, private firms, NGOs, international and global institutions as well as civil society interact to shape the outcomes of current affairs. These new and changing political environments need to be critically explored and assessed by the respective organizations in order to develop successful strategies.
What do we offer?
Against this background, the School of Business, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), offers for the first time in Switzerland a unique practice oriented programme – Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in International Business and Politics. This programme covers content from multi-disciplinary fields of international business and international relations and politics and is conducted by international academic scholars and practitioners including experts from economiesuisse and other government and non-governmental organizations.

What do you gain?
This programme offers specific practice-oriented learning outcomes. For example, participants will gain a good understanding of changing policies towards regional and multilateral/bilateral trade and foreign direct investment agreements. Furthermore, participants will be able to critically evaluate potential political risks along with social and environmental implications of offshoring. This will enable the development of awareness about the management implications of ethical and legal issues such as human rights and corruption in a changing global context. Moreover, this program helps participants to understand interactions among the various actors and institutions and thereby equips participants with the possibility to identify new opportunities within various organizations and broadens the scope in advancing their career.
It is highly suitable for those who are working for MNCs, NGOs, government or international/global institutions with a minimum of 2 years of work experience (bachelor degree and higher), or with 5 years or more work experience (High School Diploma / Apprenticeship) and for those looking to advance their career in this field of interest. This programme earns 15 ECTS points and provides a potential opportunity to pursue further studies in the MBA program or related MAS courses offered by FHNW.
